World We Imagine Pitch: FIFA (Food Is For All)
In 2021, history was made in the United States. For the first time in 100 years, the life expectancy of children born that year declined. That’s right. For 100 years, the life expectancy of U.S. residents has been increasing until last year. And why is this? Americans are becoming more susceptible to health related diseases including heart and liver failure.
As a society, we have the most amount of technology, resources, and brain power out of any generation in history—yet life expectancy has fallen. A main reason for this is the modern American lifestyle which includes lack of exercise and nutrition. And the most worrying part of this is that higher obesity rates are correlated to lower income communities.
No child should have to be put at a higher risk of type II diabetes or early-onset heart disease because of their family’s financial circumstances. Therefore, FIFA aims to increase access to nutrition for low-income communities. Especially in Los Angeles, it is both more expensive and less accessible to purchase healthy food. This means that many people are made to choose the unhealthy option because of their financial circumstances.
FIFA plans to work with supermarkets in the Los Angeles area to collect donations of healthy food to bring to low income communities. This will involve volunteers bringing the food to public schools, health centres, and places of worship. Not only will families be able to then access this food at a significantly discounted rate, but they will also be given the opportunity to take classes on how to prepare and cook the food. The organisation aims to make access to healthy food both cheaper and more accessible, and Los Angeles is just the beginning. We hope to eventually disperse the project across the United States in order to make a proper impact in solving the obesity crisis in this country.
Therefore, we are seeking support from the Anima Mundi Development Partners because with sufficient funding, our organisation has the ability to change millions of lives. By partnering with grocery stores and attracting volunteers, our operating costs will be low, but FIFA needs funding to raise awareness and get off the ground. AMDP would not only be changing the lives of people living in financially challenging situations, but together through nutrition, we can raise future generations’ life expectancies. Thank you for your time and consideration and we look forward to hearing from you.
